Crosstalk cancellation in dense WDM systems using a filter-bank receiver

Dense wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) can exploit the vast bandwidth of a single-mode optical fiber, but the channel spacing in dense WDM systems is limited by the cross talk from other channels arising from limited stop-band rejection of tunable optical filters.1-2 The finesse of single-cavity Fabry-Perot filters is limited to approximately 200. Although multiple-cavity filters can achieve higher finesse, they may be excessively complicated. In this paper we propose a cross-talk cancellation scheme that employs an optical filter-bank receiver.
