Abstract
As the systems utilization and deployment of optical amplifiers increases, so does the desire for higher output powers. Systems that require high-output-power optical amplifiers include dense WDM systems, architectures with large passive splitting, analog transmission systems, and long-distance repeaterless systems. An example of the latter includes the 2.5-Gbit, 423-km repeaterless transmission achieved with a highpower Er/Yb postamplifier and 1480-nm remote-pumping lasers.1
