Abstract

Analog AM-CATV transmission systems in the 1.5-μm window often make use of EDFAs to increase the loss budget. These EDFAs are used in saturation to increase the system signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). The noise figure (NF) is frequent determined by an optical spectrum analyzer (OSA) by using the polarization-nulling technique.1
