Abstract
Advances in optical fiber transmission technology are pushing the possible transmission rate to over 100 Gbit/s.1 In the construction of a network that handles such high speeds, an optical pattern matching circuit that can process very-high-speed optical signals is desirable for frame synchronization in the cross-connect system at each node.2 Optical pattern matching has been demonstrated for 4.65-Gbit/s, phase-shift-keying (PSK) optical patterns.3 Here, we propose an optical pattern-matching circuit for intensity-modulated (IM) patterns; it uses a high-speed optical nonlinear and gate and electrical circuits that operate more slowly than the bit rate of the signal.
