Abstract
Burst-mode capability is required for fiber-optic transmitters and receivers implementing the SAE AS4074 Linear Token-Passing Bus protocol standard.1 In AS4074, a token is passed incrementally from station to station, and bus transmissions are broadcast to all stations. AS4074 uses Manchester data coding with a 16-bit preamble preceding each message. Space-based operation requires immunity to total-dose radiation and single-event effects (SEEs).2 Other major design constraints are low power dissipation, size, and development cost.3 Previously reported burst-mode transmitter and receiver designs may be compatible with AS4074, but they have higher power dissipation or SEE sensitivity.4,5
