Abstract
An optical connector with an angled convex endface has been proposed for reducing the return loss to less than 60 dB. However, the insertion loss is increased to more than 0.32 dB when an air gap exists between the endfaces of the optical fibers in a conventional optical connector. This problem can be solved if a novel stepped ferrule is used to eliminate the air gap with minimum pressure.
