Integration-oriented lensed fibers having long working distances and wide tolerances

Abstract

Lensed fibers acting as the coupling between laser diodes (LDs) and single-mode fibers (SMFs) have desirable features, such as being compact and stable.1–3 However, long working distance (the air gap between the LD and SMF) is required so that no contact could be made between them during an automatic assembling process. A simple fabrication process and short process time are also essential for mass-production. In this paper we propose a new lensed-fiber scheme that satisfies the requirements.
