Abstract
Considerable effort is being made to develop optical amplifiers for 1.3-μm use. The praseodymium-doped fiber amplifier (PDFA) has exhibited the good overall performance as regards 1.3-μm amplification and is a promising candidate as an optical amplifier.1 It has been shown by system demonstrations that PDFAs can play an active part in 1.3-μm optical systems.2-5 The recent progress in PDFA development is comprehensively reported in this presentation.
