Abstract

Following the revolution caused by the development of practical and versatile diode-pumped erbium-doped fiber amplifiers (EDFAs),’ the field of long-haul communications is experiencing unprecedented growth. Under a market pressure for short-term implementation of high-capacity undersea networks, the technology must adapt to meet requirements of bandwidth, wavelength-routing capability, reliability, and overall, cost-effectiveness.
