Abstract

Measurement of the Raman gain coefficient in optical fiber is important for the design of new fibers to be used in 1.3-μm Raman amplifiers,1 generation of 1.48-μm light for remote pumping of erbium-doped fiber amplifiers (EDFAs), and the calculation of cross talk in long-haul wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) systems.
