Transmission performance α-parameter for semiconductor Mach-Zehnder modulators

Multiple quantum well Mach-Zehnder modulators have the important feature that the chirp of the transmitted signal depends on the electrooptic properties of the p-i-n waveguide, the splitting ratios of the two Y-junctions, the differential phase shift between the two arms of the unbiased interferometer, and the format of the modulating signals applied to each arm of the modulator.1−3
