Abstract

In most of the publications reporting on wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) long-haul optical transmission, the bit rate is 5 Gbit/s1-3 or 10 Gbit/s4 per channel. However, systems to be installed in short-term are based on a 2.5 Gbit/s technology.5
