Accelerated Measurement of Low BERs in Fiber Optic Communication Systems

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

We report the results of an experiment designed to quantify the relationship between an offset in the decision threshold of a high-speed optical receiver and the bit-error performance of the system. Ordinary testing techniques can require over 24 hours to qualify a system to a 10−14 biterror rate.
