Abstract

We show that nonlinear coupling between signal and ASE noise in long-haul WDM dispersion-managed transmission is a significant impairment which limits the amount of accumulated dispersion that can be tolerated. A variety of dispersion compensation scenarios for a broad range of signal wavelengths is analyzed through computer simulations.
