Abstract

Fiber based optical parametric amplifiers (OPA) relying of four-wave mixing (FWM) in dispersion- shifted fibers (DSF) have up to now essentially been considered not to have sufficient performance to be of interest as amplifiers in fiber communication systems, except in very particular applications. In fact, no demonstrations exist to date that shows a continuous wave (CW) pumped fiber OPA with net (black box) gain. The highest net CW gain reported so far is -5 dB [1].
