Abstract

A simple technique using measured or calculated cross-phase modulation distortion of a CW channel to predict transmission penalties is presented. The accuracy of this method is demonstrated with direct BER measurements of 10 Gbit/s WDM channels for a range of distances using a recirculating loop.
