Abstract
Thin film filters are widely used for optical add/drop as they are passive in operation, exhibit low loss and have excellent filter functions. They have been demonstrated for channel spacing as narrow as 100 GHz1 and more recently 50 GHz.2 Adding fiber optic switching to optical add/drop (OADM) systems provides the ability to remotely reconfigure and reinsert the dropped channels.
