Abstract

We present for the first time analytical expressions characterizing homodyne beat noise effects in the presence of laser wavelength referencing error and drift, and show that for typical referencing error and drift values the crosstalk requirements for large space switches in optical cross-connects can be relaxed by up to fourteen decibels.
