Abstract

We review the optical and electrical PMD compensation schemes that can be found in the literature. Because of the statistical nature of PMD, most of them are composed of an adaptive counteractive element, a feedback signal and a tracking algorithm. We also mention the importance of PMD statistics emulation and of the long-term field experiments related to PMD.
