Abstract

An efficient tunable erbium-doped fiber ring laser for 1580 nm band is realized by injecting conventional band amplified spontaneous emission with a fiber Bragg grating. The insertion of the fiber Bragg grating reduces the lasing threshold by a half. The tuning range is from 1560 to 1610 nm with signal to noise ratio better than 60 dB.
