High output power erbium doped waveguide amplifier for QAM distribution

Abstract

We report on the first Er3+-Yb3+ doped planar waveguide amplifier with +14dBm output power which we use as a post-amplifier for the DWDM transmission of eight wavelengths, each carrying 35 6-MHz 64-QAM channels, over an unrepeated span of 175km.
