Economic comparison of rings and equivalent meshes of optical cross-connects assuming idealized link restoration

Abstract

A cost comparison between various survivable optical cross-connect networks configured as single rings and equivalent meshes is described. One partial mesh provides a compromise between low cost per optical channel and low total duct distance.
