Abstract

The combined effect of PMD and PDL is investigated statistically using a 10-Gb/s, 8×82-km, recirculating fiber-loop testbed. As average PDL varies from 1.0 to 2.1 dB with a fixed average PMD of 18 ps, the power penalty at 2% probability increases from 2.5 to 4.3 dB.
