Abstract

Optical components with linear transfer characteristics are of interest in Metro/short haul optical networks since they allow easy control of signal intensities at the source rather than at nodes within transmission systems. In addition, they enable future amplitude modulation schemes that will be used to fully exploit the optical bandwidth.
