Abstract

There is growing importance for semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOA) as key components in optical communication systems, covering a wide range of applications, for eg. optical amplification, wavelength conversion, optical switching etc. Polarization sensitivity of SOAs is an issue that needs to be addressed in order to improve the performance of SOAs and thereby enhance its suitability for monolithic integration.
