Abstract

For the cost-effective implementation of the access network, there have been substantial efforts to accommodate a variety of services in the same fiber infrastructure.^1–2 For example, Full Service Access Network (FSAN) has been proposed to support various types of narrowband and broadband services in digital format.¹ In this paper, we propose and demonstrate a multi-purpose fiber-optic access network (MFAN) which can support a wide variety of wired and wireless services in the same fiber infrastructure including digital baseband, analog CATV, personal communication service (PCS), wireless local loop (WLL) and local multi-point communication service (LMCS).
