Abstract

There has been much heated discussion in recent years as to what constitutes an all-optical network and this has been compounded by the concept of wavelength switching. Of course wavelength switching can happen in either the optical or electrical domain, and a number of products have been successfully introduced in the area of electrical wavelength switching recently.1,2
