Abstract

Transparent WDM-networks can achieve significant performance enhancements in flexibility, efficiency and throughput by enabling wavelength selective switching at the user nodes. Assigning new lightpaths for WDM-channels in the course of network reconfiguration, protection switching or upgrading the system results in fast changes of the total optical power traversing a link.
