Abstract

Next generation high bit rate systems beyond 40 Gb/s currently require optical time division multiplexing (OTDM) techniques in order to overcome the bandwidth limitations of electronic circuits. This creates the need for generating very short RZ pulses, below 7 ps, at 40 GHz with high extinction ratio (greater than 20 dB) to avoid intersymbol interference when optically multiplexed.
