Abstract

Over the last couple of years modern long distance optical transmission has achieved record transmission distances as well as high capacity by bandwidth efficient modulation schemes. In such systems operating at high per channel bit rates, Polarization Mode Dispersion (PMD) has become a limiting factor for system performance.
