Abstract

Compositions are described with low ON-state insertion loss (<0.1 dB/cm). Their sharp thermooptic transition (>5 dB/cm/°C) enables design of compact, high extinction ratio (>20 dB/cm) shutters, switches, variable neutral density filters, and variable optical attenuators.
