All-Optical Switching in Microring Devices by Carrier Injection

Abstract

We demonstrate all-optical switching in laterally coupled GaAs-AlGaAs microring resonators by carrier injection. The microrings are optically pumped just above their bandgap energy, resulting in a tuning of their resonance wavelengths due to the refractive index change.
