Electronic Equalization for Extending the Reach of Electro-Absorption Modulator Based Transponders

Abstract

We demonstrate the use of electronic equalization to improve the performance of electro-absorption modulators. We show that a transmitter designed for 40km reach applications can be extended beyond 75km when assisted by electronic equalization.
