Accurate Q-factor Distributions in Optical Transmission Systems with Polarization Effects

Abstract

In a recirculating loop, we successfully emulate straight-line systems with different PDL values by using a loop-synchronous polarization scrambler. Our experiments and simulations using an accurate receiver model show that repolarization of noise causes an asymmetric Q-factor distribution.
