Abstract

Causes for microsecond timescale polarization changes in high speed WDM transmission systems were analyzed experimentally. Coiled patch cables and spooled DCF in combination with mechanical vibrations were identified as sources of Stokes vector movements with velocities of > 45,000 rotations/sec.
