Form birefringence of fiber Bragg gratings due to UV exposure anisotropy

Abstract

Fiber birefringence is induced during UV exposure because of absorption and beam focusing. Both effects have a small, comparable magnitude and opposite signs. Form birefringence does not explain the observed polarization dependence of FBGs.
