Unstable Raman amplification due to Brillouin scattering and its suppression for 40Gb/s WDM transmission

Abstract

The instability in Raman amplifiers due to Brillouin scattering is observed for the first time and successfully suppressed by phase modulation. A U-band 40Gb/s WDM transmission experiment demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed suppression technique.
