Low-PDL 16-channel Variable Optical Attenuator Array using Silica-based PLC

Abstract

We successfully reduced the PDL of a silica-based PLC-VOA array at an attenuation of 15 dB to 0.3 dB by forming stress-releasing grooves and by employing a cross-path in an asymmetric Mach-Zehnder interferometer.
