Multichannel PMD mitigation through forward-error-correction with distributed fast PMD scrambling

Abstract

We propose a multichannel PMD mitigation scheme using forward-error-correction (FEC) and distributed fast polarization scramblers that randomize PMD during each FEC burst-error-correcting-period. Numerical evaluations show substantial improvement in PMD tolerance and reduction in outage probability.
