Electronic Equalisation for Low Cost 10 Gbit/s Directly Modulated Systems

Abstract

We present measurements and simulations of the improvement due to electronic signal processing on 10 Gbit/s directly modulated lasers. MLSE algorithms with strong FEC can enable reaches in excess of 300 km NDSF without optical dispersion compensation.
