All-optical half adder using a PPLN waveguide and an SOA

Abstract

We demonstrate an all-optical half adder for bit-wise addition of two data streams that simultaneously generates SUM and CARRY (XOR and AND operations, respectively). Error free operation for 27 bits with 2dB power-penalty is reported.
