Development of Optical Fiber Indoor/Outdoor Cables for Plenum and Riser Applications

Abstract

Many applications benefit from running one continuous tight-buffered cable for both the inter-building and intra-building networks. These applications are typically short runs that connect one or more buildings in a campus. A family of optical fiber cables from 6 to 24 fibers has been developed for such indoor/outdoor applications (see Figures 1-3). These cables are suitable for both indoor and outdoor environments in that they meet burn, water migration and low-temperature requirements. These “all purpose” cables are known as FREEDM® One Cables.
