Optical Packet Power Equalization with Large Dynamic Range using Controlled Gain-Clamped SOA

Abstract

We demonstrate a technique to equalize power variation between packets and bursts using controlled gain-clamped SOA. We equalize incoming packets with 10-dB power differences and remove SOA-induced waveform distortion. We achieve > 4-dB sensitivity improvement.
