Fiber Transmission System Application and Limitation of Multicanonical Sampling in PMD Emulation

Abstract

We apply multicanonical sampling to a 10-Gb/s fiber transmission system using a recirculating loop as a PMD emulator. With 22-ps average PMD, the probability density at 10−5 BER increases from 5×10−4 (Monte-Carlo) to 0.01 (multicanonical).
