Abstract
Silica-core Bragg fibers with a diameter below 10 μm are fabricated to achieve single-mode transmission. The core of the fiber is drawn from a conventional single-mode fiber and multilayer cladding is formed on the outside by sputtering deposition of Si and SiO2 layers. Bandgap guidance over a broadband wavelength range and the mode profile which corresponds with HE11 mode are observed.
