Abstract
A new level of waveguide integration, capable of producing complex integrated optical circuits custom-designed to meet specific end-user requirements, is demonstrated. We discuss in details the performance and applications of a waveguide amplifier, a crucial building block in our library of optical elements. New circuits, such as an amplified reconfigurable add-drop module, are shown as examples of optical integration.
