This talk focuses on some of the recent results from the Hybrid Optical and Packet infrastructure (HOPI) project of Internet2. The HOPI project examines hybrid networking: how to incorporate layer 1 through layer 3 network capabilities into a coherent network design. It examines two fundamental areas: dynamic provisioning of layer 1 services to support applications, and hybrid capabilities, the integration of layer 1 through layer 3 services.
