SOA Based Upstream Packet Equalizer in 10Gb/s Extended-Reach PONs

Abstract

We present a packet power equalizer for use in extended-reach PONs based on a gain-controlled SOA located in the local exchange. The scheme can equalize packets with 12dB dynamic range without requiring a burst-mode receiver.
