Abstract

We analyze capacity limitations in long repeater-less transmission experiments. Combination of self-phase-modulation and inter-channel Raman cross-talk limits useable bandwidth, confining ultimate capacity for the examined design to 32×10Gb/s and 8×10Gb/s channels over 486km and 505km, respectively.
