Hardware-Accelerated Protection in Long-Reach PON

Abstract

We propose hardware-accelerated protection for the “ring-and-spur” Long-Reach PON to achieve fast protection-switching time, and automatic failure location at OLT. We demonstrate that protection paths can be established within 14 ms after a failure occurs.
